Doctrine of Jesus Christ Controls History

February 27, 2011

A. Jesus Christ has direct control of human history through His divine essence, the function of divine attributes in time and in eternity, and through divine decisions of the Supreme Court of heaven. This is the type of power mentioned in Dt 33:26, “There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides the heavens to help you, and in His majesty He rides through the skies.”

B. Jesus Christ has indirect control of human history through the function of the laws of divine establishment.
1. There are nations that follow the laws of divine establishment and continue to survive and are even blessed by God through establishment principles.
2. These are the laws related to the individual believer’s attitude toward Bible doctrine, marriage, family, and the national entity.
3. Rom 13:1-8 teaches this principle.

C. Jesus Christ controls history through the hostility of mankind. In Ps 76:10, God uses the wrath of man to praise Him. The rise of Joseph Stalin and Adolph Hitler are excellent examples.

D. Jesus Christ controls history with legal control through liability to the laws of volitional responsibility.
1. This is the principle of the sovereignty of God and the free will of mankind co-existing in human history to resolve the prehistoric angelic conflict.
2. This is taught in Hos 8:7, which tells us that “we sow to the wind and reap the whirlwind.” Also in Gal 6:7-8, “Be not deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a person sows, this he shall also reap. For the one who sows to his own sin nature shall from the sin nature reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit shall from the Spirit reap in life eternal.”

E. Freedom and volition are the issues in both human history and the prehistoric angelic conflict. This is a part of Jesus Christ controlling history.
1. Freedom is necessary. Therefore, the free will of mankind and the sovereignty of God must coexist in human history in order to resolve the angelic conflict.
2. The unique spiritual life of the Church Age is extremely important as part of the witness for the Prosecution in the rebuttal phase of Satan’s appeal trial.
3. Spiritual maturity and pleroma status is the key to spiritual freedom, Ps 119:45, “I will seek freedom; for I seek Your doctrines.” Those who are positive to doctrine and continue with it are the ones who enter into pleroma status.
4. There is no freedom apart from knowledge of the truth, Jn 8:32.
F. Jesus Christ controls history through the preservation of Israel.
1. Our Lord gave Israel fantastic promises that must be fulfilled at a future time.
2. Through three generations of believers in the Old Testament a new racial species was born, Rom 9:7-13.
3. Because of this Jesus Christ is called the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, Ex 3:6, 15-16; 4:5; Mt 22:32; Mk 12:26; Lk 20:37; Acts 7:12.
4. Nations are judged for their anti-Semitism. You cannot malign the Jew and get away with it, just as you cannot reject Bible doctrine and get away with it.

G. Jesus Christ controls history through the preservation of planet earth and the entire universe which He created.
1. Col 1:16-17 tells us that Jesus Christ not only created the universe but holds it together and preserves it.
2. In Heb 1:3, Jesus Christ holds the universe together by the word of His power.
3. Heb 1:10 tells us that He created the universe.

H. Mankind does not have the power to destroy either the earth or the universe.
1. The universe will not be destroyed until the termination of human history by the Creator, the Lord Jesus Christ, 2 Pet 3:10-12.
2. He will then create a new universe for the eternal state, 2 Pet 3:13; Rev 2:11.

I. The mature believer is the key to spiritual freedom when everything else fails.
1. Jeshurun believers existed in the Old Testament in every generation.
2. Pleroma believers exist in every generation of the Church Age.
3. The key to understanding freedom is understanding that Jesus Christ controls history because of mature believers.
4. Spiritual freedom will continue to exist for believers until the end of human history.
5. There is no place for the false agenda and practice of Christian activism.

J. Jesus Christ controls history during the fifth cycle of discipline.
1. God punished King Hezekiah for his policy of appeasement and compromise with evil, demonism, and the enemies of Israel, Isa 36:1-2.
2. Ps 46 is the song that the lady’s choir sang at this time.
a. Ps 46:1, “God is our fortification and security; He is a help in time of adversity.”
b. Ps 46:2, “For this cause we will not fear, when the earth is caused to change and when the mountains quake into the heart of the sea.”
c. Ps 46:3, “His waters (the army invading Israel) shall bellow a war cry and boil with anger; then the mountains (nations without doctrine) shall tremble before his arrogance. Selah (Think about it).”
d. Ps 46:4, “A river (doctrine) whose channels shall cause happiness to the city of God, the holy places of the Most High God.”
e. Ps 46:5, “Since God is in the middle of her (Jerusalem), she will not totter; the Lord will help her when the morning dawns.”
f. Ps 46:6, “The Gentiles (Assyrian army) will utter their great battle cry; they will cause kingdoms to tremble; but He will utter His battle cry, and the earth will be dissolved.”
g. Ps 46:7, “The Lord of the armies is with us; an impregnable fort is the God of Jacob. Selah.”
h. Ps 46:8, “March, pass in review the performance of the Lord. Who has caused annihilation in the land?”
i. Ps 46:9, “He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth; He smashes the bow and cuts in pieces the spear; He burns the chariots with fire.”
j. Ps 46:10, “Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the land.”
k. Ps 46:11, “The Lord of the armies is with us; an impregnable fort is the God of Jacob. Selah.”
3. The protection of Jesus Christ is found in Isa 37:33-38, “Therefore, thus says the Lord concerning the king of Assyria, ‘He will not come to this city or shoot an arrow there; and he will not come before it with a shield, or throw up a siege ramp against it. ‘By the way that he came, by the same he will return, and he will not come to this city,’ declares the Lord. ‘For I will defend this city to save it for My own sake and for My servant David’s sake.’” Then the angel of the Lord went out and struck 185,000 in the bivouac of the Assyrians; and when men arose early in the morning, and behold, all of these were dead. So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and returned home and lived at Nineveh. It came about (19 years later) as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons killed him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. And Esarhaddon his son ruled in his place.”
4. Without the victory of Jesus Christ there is no victory over the terrorism of the king of Assyria.
5. Without the victory of Jesus Christ there is no victory over the terrorism of the Muslims against the United States.

and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea.”
